Canterbury-Bankstown Council Leisure & Aquatic Centres (Sydney)

Applies to five council-run leisure and aquatic centres in Canterbury-Bankstown, NSW — this pin marks the council offices in Bankstown as a representative point

Reported: September 15, 2026

Canterbury-Bankstown Council unanimously voted to ban AI-enabled smart glasses at its five leisure and aquatic centres, including pools and change rooms, citing concerns about covert filming and the safety of children. Staff can confiscate devices and remove people who don’t comply. People who need smart glasses for vision accessibility can still enter with prior permission. It is the first council in NSW to introduce such a ban, following similar moves by Brisbane City Council and Yarra Council.
